I’ve been away for quite a while but I think I’m back.

For the last week I’ve been in sunny Panama City Beach, Florida, getting my vacation time in. Having a job in the tax industry I do more work in four months than most people do all year…nevermind that I work 10 months straight.

But anyway, I started my first sock on the drive to PCB. After a lengthy search of the Ravelry patterns I decided on the Broadripple pattern since I had sz3 double points and two balls of Cascade Fixation yarn.Broadripple Sock

And thats what it looks like. I still need to weave in the ends but for now I’ll call it done. One minor change I made was to make the cuff/leg not as tall as the pattern called for. The intended recipient of these socks is well, a bit on the short side and if I had made them to pattern they would be knee socks on her. They will most likely be sandal socks for this fall when it cools off.

I started the second one in the middle of World Wide Knit In Public Day and had finished the heel flap by the end of the day. I took a day off from knitting on Sunday to unpack from the trip, give the hands a rest and deal with the ants that moved into my apartment in my absence. I hope to have it finished by the end of the week and to acquire some more Fixation in different colors to make some socks for the rest of the nieces.

I also attempted the Arizona Flip Flop sock while I was on vacation. It turned out, hmmm, okish? The pattern was a little vague in one place that pretty much ruined the experience of the sock.

AZ Flip Flop Sock pattern edit/note:
At the end of row 50A you need to not only cast off but break the yarn and weave in the end. Then you will need to tie back on and pick up with row 42B to complete.

I’m playing music again. I’ve been practicing with a guy I’ve know for about 14 years, working on some tunes and getting all the gear wired up correctly for 2 guys to play multiple instruments through the wonders of live looping and sampling. When it all comes together it should be something similar to “acoustic techno” for lack of a better term. We are playing all the instruments, even live, but will only play them for a short bit to get a loop made and then move on to another instrument.

In the process of getting back into playing music I’ve hooked up with a couple of DJs that would like to see me back behind the wheels of steel to throw down a set of my famous mashups. I have a few mix sets ready to upload as soon as my server stops being a jackass and lets me upload them. I’ll post a link when I get them up.

The article that headline comes from can be found here. This is my response to that:

Watching Firefly made me fly a small, relatively obsolete, space-going cargo vessel around the the galaxy looking for odd jobs and whoring myself out as a mercenary of sorts, all the while having a winning personality and a complicated but overall non-douchey moral code.

Do a quick search of the article for the word “parents”, “mother”, “father”, “family”. You will get zero results for any of those words. Where were her parents? How does this happen?

Just another day of being baffled be people and the media.

Dear blog,

I’m so sorry I haven’t been spending much time with you lately. Its just been so weird around here though. Not busy, not bored, not fun, just being without much of a purpose other than to be in the place I’m supposed to be at that time. There have been some fun times and we will cover that…and my lack of knitting lately.

Working backwards:

Last night my usual yoga instructor wasn’t at class and her style of teaching was a lot different. Just not what I was expecting from my usual yoga class which was a major put-off. I might skip on Thursday. I’m just not comfortable with her style.

Sunday silhouette match of the month. Got there late and stayed late. Brought my benchrest gear to try it out on silhouette and shot pretty bad. A score of 36 out of 40 is actually extremely bad for benchrest silhouette. The four that I missed I actually watched the bullets drop into the ground several feet in front of the targets. Otherwise it would have been a 40/40 and probably about 5 tiebreakers.

After the shoot I went to the wood shop to do some more work on my record storage cabinet. It almost has a complete first coat of stain. I might be able to completely finish it by the end of the week. I also put a coat of finish on my silhouette rifle carrier. One more coat, some “feet” for the bottom and some felt to line the openings where my gun sits and it’s done.

Wednesday nights I’ve been going to Metropolis to shoot in their benchrest matches. Its been raining and windy both times I’ve been and I’ve shot terrible but I know where I stand on many aspects of my shooting. My scores so far are: 3130-8x (out of a possible 7500-75x) and 2770-5x.

Tuesday nights is Open Mic night at Jeremiah’s Pub. A friend of mine is DJ’ing between the performers while they setup and whatnot. Last week there was a big group improv acoustic guitar/piano/DJ/freestyle rap/harmonica jam session which for little ol’ Paducah was amazing that no one got hurt mostly and that secondly it was freaking awesome.

I haven’t knitted in weeks. Yeah, I’ve picked up needles and yarn on several occasions…while cleaning the house, to put them away. Its quite sad really. I also found out that I knit weird. I do all of my knit stitches “knit through the back loop” which is why I could knit bullet proof fabric from fluff. That seems to put an extra half twist in each stitch pulling everything a little bit tighter.

So yeah, I’ve been places and done things.
