Day 4 – No News Is No News

And if you really thought I had no news, you will learn that I’m a liar:)

Finished the cuff on the first stocking. No photographic evidence of such.The bind off was too tight with the recommended needle so I went up two sizes (hey, it was handy). Did the bind off again and it was only about an inch larger in max diameter. I really need it to be about two more inches. The girl has some big thighs. Very nice big thighs. I’ll stop now.

Started on the second stocking. Cast on the toe, did the increases and started working the fishnet and got distracted by Facebook. Seriously, who hasn’t done this before?

It’s off to bed for this knitter. Who knows what tomorrow may hold.

Knitting Olympics – Day 3

It’s day three of the Knitting Olympics and I’ve almost completed the first of a pair of fishnet stockings. Got to watch my event of the winter games, the biathlon. Really looking forward to the boardercross and the other snowboard events.

Here’s the required knit pic. You can see where I’ve started the ribbing on the cuff.

I’m not real happy with this batch of yarn. It feels like the yarn was dyed a consistent medium blue and was bleached to achieve the lighter shades and white. The darker the color the fluffier and stretchier the yarn is. The white parts are very thin and has very little elastic property. The other ball for this project is from the same dye lot so I guess I’ll see what the future yarn holds.

Knitting Olympics Day 2

Finally got to watch some of the events tonight. Short track speed skating was fun and the women’s moguls, super cute girls with huge balls. But on to the knitting.

I don’t think I’ve covered my project so here it is. I’m doing the “Quick and Dirty, 2- Needle Fishnet Stockings” by Joan Michael-McGowan. It’s a basic fishnet stocking that up until yesterday I was making for a very cute girl. Things change quickly around these parts, but I press on. Enough about that, more on the stockings. I’ve never completed a pair of socks, much less something taller, so that’s my challenge. Finish the pair in the time limit. So far it looks like I’m going to make it and have yarn left over. The pattern calls for 2-100yd balls of Cascade Fixation (currently my fixated favorite yarn). I’m almost done with the first stocking and have what appears to be over half a ball left. So I might make something to go along with the stockings, given enough time and leftovers.

This is where I stopped for the night. I have 8 or 9 inches to go before I finish the first stocking.

I’m debating the cuff. I’d like to make it a challenge but I’m not sure the yarn is suitable. My thought is a filet crochet cuff like this but I doubt the stretchy yarn would work well.

After a year and a half break from the blog, I’m back to say this: For the Knitting Winter Olympics I’ll be knitting the Quick and Dirty 2-Needle Fishnet Stockings from Debby Stoller’s book Stitch and Bitch Nation. This is to go along with the Betty that I knit for Ms. Complicated. Seriously, how sexy could that be?
