I’m slowly working my way through that dang sweater I started well over a year ago. I’ve been averaging two inches or so every night, which doesn’t sound like much but the more the more I knit the heavier this thing gets and the slower I go.
I had to change balls of yarn recently and the new yarn seems much thinner than the last. Well, at least for the first three or four rows, and then it went back to normal size. So I have a mildly noticeable stripe in the front of my sweater which I didn’t notice until I was about six inches past it. There is no way I’m going back to fix that. Screw it.
Monday night I had my arse handed to me in my yoga class. I decided yoga was going to be a necessary evil since I just crossed the 30 year mark and my flexibility has been suffering for some time. I have weak ankles and knees and a hip that likes to self-dislocate. So far I’ve seen my flexibility improve, some of my strength increase and I all around feel better (except for that nagging pain the mornings after yoga class). Having friends in the class makes going less painful, since we are all right around the 30 mark and we play off each other it makes the class much more fun. In a few weeks I’ll see how yoga has affected my shooting scores, hopefully for the better. I know I’ve seen my home practices improve.
Since I’ve not updated this week much I’ll tell you what else has been going on. I’ve been on a Harry Potter marathon. Every night I’ve watched at least one of the movies, watching them in order. I just finished reading Contact by Carl Sagan. I’ve always loved the movie but have never read the book. I had no idea how different the two are but I must say I prefer the movie. I almost can’t compare the two since there are so many things that are different. Its almost as if someone read the book, told a friend about it, then that person told a friend, etc ad nauseum and the last person made a movie about it. The broad scope of the book was preserved but most of the details were changed. Both are great, but comparing them is just unfair.
I’m also working my way to the end of Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Quite possibly my favorite book of all time. Because I have to keep myself in a complete state of confusion at all times I’m also reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. This book will make you crazy, if you are not already:) If you are, you’ll be fine.
